What is coaching?
“Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn, rather than teaching them.” – Timothy Gallway
Basically coaching is a do with process as opposed to a do to process. Coaching allows the client to take responsibility and control of the outcome and be a part of the solution rather than being told what to do to fix the problem.
Coaching is for any person who wants to improve their life quality and wants to achieve more in life with a personal life coach.
Coaching provides mentoring, monitoring, support and training to assist the client to get from where you are now to where they want to be. Through goal setting, planning and decision making, coaching gets clients to be responsible for their own achievements and actions. Coaching can create improved relationships, confidence, personal evolution and success in career, health and money.
Coaching is about establishing and developing an ongoing relationship with the client, by providing regular contact over a given time frame. It’s about discovering what is important to the client, what is missing from their life or business and what outcomes they are looking for by providing encouragement, passion and inspiration.
Coaching will achieve the client’s goals faster and more effortlessly by challenging their thinking, getting them to think outside the square and ultimately expand their mind.
Coaching is about helping the client to identify the skills, talents and capabilities that are within them, increasing their independence, improving resilience and reducing reliance.
Coaching can provide assistance in developing leaders and teams; strategic planning and communication and help organisations by improving staff productivity, job satisfaction and longevity.
Coaching uses a specific range of tools with the aim of helping the client shift perspectives on an issue or ambition, and thereby exploring different solutions and options in order to achieve their desired outcomes. The tools can be used on people of all ages in all fields or human endeavours, sport, education, business and life.
The client is responsible for their own achievements and success; their coach is a person who observes, gives objective feedback, teaches, develops action plans and holds them responsible for their actions and commitments; a facilitator.
Some of the tools your coach will use are hypnosis, Time Line TherapyTM (TLT) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
Who uses coaching?

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a totally natural state of mind, like day dreaming. Using a gentle guiding voice, a hypnotist leads and guides the client’s mind into a state of relaxation or trance, which taps into the sub conscious. In a trance, the client’s attention is focused narrowly outside themself to reprogram behaviour patterns. At all times, whilst hypnotized the client is in control and a session can be terminated at anytime. It is very good process for assisting in areas like weight loss, quit smoking and insomnia.
What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the study of human excellence and communication. It explores the relationship between;
- How the client thinks (neuro), the relationship and interaction between the client’s body and mind
- How the client communicates (linguistic) and are communicated to, both verbally and non verbally
- The client’s patterns and codes of reactions, behaviours, habits and emotions (programmes) both consciously and unconsciously which are our means of expression for life.
By understanding how we operate we can make changes and transform ourselves.
It was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, amongst others, in the 1970’s.
Utilizing a toolbox of processes, NLP assists the client to have more consistent and predictable personal happiness and professional success, increasing effectiveness and empowerment by modifying behaviour and managing the client’s states, emotions and behaviours.
The difference between NLP and therapy is that NLP focuses on the solution creating more positive emotions and results in fewer sessions and there are no long term ongoing expenses.
What is TLT?
Time Line Therapy TM was developed by Tad James in the 1980’s. It is a technique which uses active imagination to go back into the client’s past to release negative emotions and beliefs and forward into their future to set goals.
What can I expect?
Once a session is booked a coaching agreement and client profile form will be sent out to the client. The client profile provides information so that the coach has a full and accurate understanding of the client’s thought patterns or behaviours and the areas the client needs assistance with. The client profile can be done in a session but it is best done prior to their visit so session time can be used to concentrate on getting the client their desired changes quickly. The client can expect change after the first session and depending on the person they may feel a bit disorientated for a period of time after the session.
The coaching can be conducted a number of ways with Face to Face being the most effective, especially for the first session. Telephone and Skype can also be used.
Generally, a session will run for 60 – 90 minutes. Each session/program will be specifically designed to meet your needs, desires and results.
Email and/or phone support is also available if required.
The more effort the client puts into the whole coaching process the more successful their results will be.
What is the process?
The first step involves the client telling the coach about their problem or what they want to achieve. The coach will ask the client a number of questions to work out how the client processes their thoughts, determine what is holding them back and discover the source of the problem. These questions will also help the coach decide the best, most effective process for the client’s change. Some time before the end of this part of the session the coach will ask the client what has to happen for them to know whether the problem is gone. The coach will also ask the client what they are prepared to do to make the change.
Do you have to be ready to make the change?
Yes, the client has to be aware and acknowledge that they have a problem and want a change for the better. The client will also have to be prepared to face the hard stuff and do what is required to get the results they want.
How do you make the change last?
NLP is noted for its ability to bring about lasting change but it is dependent on both the practitioner and client believing that the change is possible. Permanent change also happens for the client if they are willing to make the necessary changes in their life and complete the tasks assigned to them.
What is my responsibility?
The client’s responsibility is to be completely honest with themself and with their coach. It is their responsibility to confirm whether or not any changes produced the desired results. It is their responsibility to communicate their results to the coach. It is the client’s responsibility to complete all tasks fully and put the learnings into practice outside their sessions. It is their responsibility to focus on what they want and to focus on the positive.
What is my commitment?
It is the client’s responsibility to be prepared to put in 100% effort into the coaching process, be prepared to give it their all. This is what will make the difference for the client and help them achieve their success. The client has to be prepared to challenge some of their old ways, their concepts of who they are, what they are capable of and what they stand for.
Will I have to talk about the past?
Coaching is focused on improving the client’s future. Sometimes background information may be needed to understand how the client has reached their current situation. Personal issues from the past will only be discussed if they are causing blockages to the client’s success and they wish to share them. Time spent dwelling on the past will be costly and slow down the progress during the session.
How does the mind and emotions affect one’s life?
Our mind influences how we react to situations. This is often associated with our past memories and the associated emotion rather than the present situation. These negative emotions can stack up over time and tend to block the experience of the positive emotions. These negative emotions are stored in the body and may block nerve supply and blood supply, depress the immune system leading to ill health.
Can I release anything – behaviour, habit, negative thinking and self talk?
It is possible to release anything, behaviour, habit, negative, thinking and self talk, if the client is ready and if they really want change to happen.
Do you work with health problems and psychiatric disorders?
No, we don’t have any qualifications in those areas so we won’t work with anyone who has a psychiatric disorder or a health problem. However, we are prepared to work with clients if it assists in reducing their stress level and in conjunction with their health professional.
What do I get for my money?
Think about what value financially, emotionally, physically and mentally you would get if your issues were resolved. How much is it worth to you? You get a personalized service, support and motivation, a coach who is supportive and non judgmental. Someone to listen to all your ideas and encourage you to strive for success, try something different and believe in you. The coach may assist you in finding or supply resources such as; motivational material, books, cd’s, music, articles and websites. You get someone who wants you to get a speedy result which in the long term can save you money.
Do you give a money backed guarantee?
Yes. Your success is our goal. You will be satisfied by the end of your session/program or we will refund your fee.
How many consultations will I need?
Generally, 1-3 sessions are sufficient for most problems and you should notice significant change after the first session. A few people may need or want ongoing work over a longer period depending on their circumstances and needs.
What happens after the session/s?
You may be assigned specific tasks to complete which is an essential part of the coaching process. These tasks will be directly related to the circumstances that created your problem. The time frame for completing these tasks may vary from one week to several months. YOU MUST DO THEM to achieve your desired result.
Can I quit coaching at any time?
